IT CAN BE DONE

Motherhood appeared to be out for our young Boxer bitch. A false pregnancy, an unsuccessful mating and a constant vaginal discharge did not augur well for raising a litter of puppies.

Maisey was bought to me at 2 ½ years old. She had a history of allergic responses including badly inflamed feet, which she licked constantly. She had been prescribed Prednisone for this. Her eyes were red and inflamed looking, with a pale yellow sticky discharge. She had been prescribed antibiotics for vaginitis and false pregnancies on previous occasions. Her vulval swelling never subsided between heats.

She had been vaccinated yearly and was given Advantage Plus once. Her diet consisted of Champ and Pal canned food, some chicken and mutton mince with white rice and Royal Canine for Boxers. We started with the diet and changed this to raw meat (no beef) with lots of vegetables.

She was given a homeopathic / herbal wormer, natural flea control and a homeopathic allergy support. Herbal support for the reproductive system included Chaste Tree, Echinacea, Cleavers, and Phytolacca.

We formulated a foot bath lotion and gave her the homeopathic Rhus Veneta. Her feet improved over a period of time but her vulva remained swollen. Maisey was commenced on a homeopathic hormonal regulation regime, which included Apis, Pulsatilla and Aristochlia.

Maisey‘s next heat was normal. She was successfully mated and produced six live and healthy puppies. She required a little herbal help with her initial milk flow but has remained well ever since.

PIXIE
Staffy, Female, 8 years old

I was diagnosed by my vet as having Mast Cell Tumours. My first one appeared over a year ago. This is a serious condition and my mum was very worried about me. I was meant to have chemotherapy but my mum didn’t want that for me.

My vet recommended I come and see Sandy at the Animal Health Centre in Orewa. Sandy changed my diet to some scrummy real food, and gave me some yucky herbal medicine.

I also had a couple of homeopathic remedies, which didn’t have any taste thank goodness.

After a week my coat began to shine and become softer, my eye stopped weeping (had it since a pup!), and I didn’t have to drink so much water. My lumps started to go down and I started to have fun again. I am so pleased I didn’t have to those awful drugs.

Love Pixie.

PS: The lumps between my toes have gone and my tummy doesn’t itch any more!

FERRARI
Sydney Silkie X Australian Terrier, 14 years old.

Ferrari's blood test results were so bad he was recommended to be euthanised. His test showed his ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase — gives indication of liver function) was 1861 Units per Litre, the normal range for a dog is 10.6 - 100.7 Units per Litre.

Ferrari was being vaccinated yearly, given chemical flea control on a 6 weekly basis, was being fed dry food and had been given antibiotics. Ferrari's abdomen was so distended that for the past three weeks he could hardly walk and eating was difficult. He constantly licked his paws and just lay on the cold floor.

His diet was changed to just TRIPE, and given the herbs Cleavers for drainage, and a combination of liver/digestive herbs. His homeopathic remedies were given twice daily for three days. On the fourth day he was running about, tummy in, tail up, a sparkle back in his eye. He is not to have any more chemicals, and we will soon vary his diet as he progresses. His owner is thrilled to have him free from suffering.
